Join us for this free event to reflect, connect, and celebrate as we conclude the personal and impactful exhibition Care featuring artworks by Tea Gerbeza, George Glenn, Karishma Joshi, Karlie King and Ashley Johnson. We encourage you to share experiences, contributions and insights into the intersection of embodiment, experiences of illness and disability and creative practice at this informal event.
EVENT: Care Closing Gathering and performance of Conversations with a Faltering Heart by Ashley Johnson
DAY: Sunday, January 12
TIME: 3:00 - 5:00 PM (Johnson's 15-minute performance begins at 3:30 PM)
PLACE: Art Gallery of Regina (2420 Elphinstone Street)
COST: Free
CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE: call 306-522-5940 or complete the form on this page: https://www.artgalleryofregina.ca/workshops
You can expect a final opportunity to view the exhibition, opportunities for informal conversation, and a live performance of Conversations with a Faltering Heart (performance and choreography by Ashley Johnson).
Conversations with a Faltering Heart emerges from The Moving Heart, Johnson's collaborative, multisensory installation with ceramic artist Karlie King.
Clinton Ackerman will accompany Johnson's performance with a live experimental soundscape utilizing recordings of Johnson's echocardiograms. In addition to her choreographed movement, Johnson delivers a monologue throughout the 15-minute movement exploration, beginning at 3:30 PM.
Conversations with a Faltering Heart serves as both a tribute to a slowly dying heart and an intimate exploration of the intricate vasculature that defines this vital organ. This performance is especially momentous for Johnson, as it is her first performance in two years.
This performance has been enriched by the expertise and support of many who have consulted with Johnson during the development of this work. We are incredibly grateful for your involvement in the experiential workshops that helped shape this immersive performance, which serves to wrap up the exhibition and Johnson's artist-in-communities project funded by SK-Arts.
Your presence at this gathering means a lot to us as we celebrate the culmination of "Care" and the many exciting discussions and reactions it has elicited.
Please let us know that you will join us by completing the form on our website or by calling the Art Gallery of Regina at 306-522-5940.
