Stories of Veterans

We are honoured to be hosting a lecture on Thursday, November 7, at 7:00 PM at The Artesian to commemorate the service of Saskatchewan’s military veterans.

Mark Coté is an instructor in the Department of Geography at the University of Regina, and is the author of That Lucky Old Son: Re-discovering my father through his World War II Bomber Command and POW experiences. Mark will share the story of his father Leonard, who enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, ultimately serving in the 158 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. He was gunned down over Holland, and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner before returning to Saskatchewan.

Jim Pratt is originally from the Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation. He served 2 years with the RCMP in the 1970s as a band constable, before joining the Regina Police Service. He retired from the RPS in 2008 as a corporal 27 years. He also served for 19 years as a reserve field military officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. Now an instructor in the Justice Studies program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Jim works alongside Treaty 4 elders as a traditional helper. Jim will discuss his service as well as that of his father’s, William Pratt, who served in the Second World War.

All are welcome! This event is free to the public, though a $10 donation is suggested to support Heritage Regina’s educational programming. We will also be collecting donations for the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Fund.

Mark Coté will have copies of That Lucky Old Son available for purchase after the lecture (cash only).
