Enjoy monumental trios by Beethoven and Brahms performed by Elixir!
Elixir begins the season with Beethoven’s famous “Ghost” trio , aptly named because of the eerie sound effects he produces with the three instruments in the second movement. It is framed by two cheery, good-natured, boistrous movements showing Beethoven’s bouts of good humour!
To contrast, Brahms’ C minor trio begins with fate-defying energy, followed by a flighty, mysterious mood that seems insecure. What follows, however, is a deeply satisfying lullaby, full of warmth, so typical of Brahms. Brahms ends the work with a quick, restless motive that is ultimately transformed into a peaceful theme that works its way to a rousing conclusion!
