Provincial budget offers some increases for culture
March 19, 2025

While the provincial budget, announced today, prioritizes affordability, health care, education, and safer communities, it does include some increases that may impact cultural groups in the province.

Estimates for 2025/26 show SK Arts budget increasing to $6.879 million, from $6.775 million the previous year. The Royal Saskatchewan Museum received a $2.78 million increase this year, bringing them to $5.838 million ($3.058 million in 2025/25), to cover costs of building a new annex to increase storage for artifacts. And, a substantial increase to Community Sport, Culture and Recreation of $5.350 million brings them to $8,450 (from $3,100 million), which will mainly be used to support playground improvements and the Rink Affordability Grant.

While the Saskatchewan Science Centre and Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation remain status quo, Creative Saskatchewan’s funding is set at $16.1 million for 2025-26, a decrease of $2,000,000 that may impact the film production community.
