Online streaming services to contribute to Canada’s broadcasting system
As a step towards the implementation of the 2023 Online Streaming Act, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is now requiring online streaming companies to contribute 5% of their revenues to the funding of Canadian and Indigenous music and audiovisual content, and independent local news. This change will come into effect in the 2024 broadcast year and is expected to bring in around $200 million per year in new funding. Read more |
