Bill C-11, An Act to Amend the Broadcasting Act, currently being considered before Parliament, seeks to ensure that online broadcasting companies contribute their fair share to cultural ecosystems in Canada. If approved, the bill will ensure that those who generate revenue online by using Canadian cultural content, such as music and audiovisual creations, are compensating the creative industry and its creators. The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will establish new requirements for online companies that broadcast content. The Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (CDCE) has put together a FAQ for Bill C-11 and is encouraging supporters of this legislation to contact their Member of Parliament.
