Walter Linklater, a celebrated First Nations Elder passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018. Walter was a Residential School survivor and he dedicated his life to education and culture. Among his many accomplishments, Walter provided Elder services to numerous organizations and boards in Saskatoon, including the Saskatoon Police Service Advisory Council and the University of Saskatchewan. He was also a member of the naming committee for Chief Mistawasis Bridge that was recently completed. Throughout his life, Walter shared cultural teachings to ensure young people maintained strong connections to First Nation's culture and identity and that all people who inhabit these lands live with better understanding and relationships. The legacy of these efforts will live on for generations to come.
