Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre
The Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre (SICC) has served First Nations people since 1972. It was the first First Nations controlled educational institution serving at the provincial level. The SICC strives to maintain the cultural identity, traditional arts, and history of First Nations cultures, which include Plains Cree, Swampy Cree, Woodlands Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakota and Lakota, who inhabit what is now known as Saskatchewan. Its objectives include: promoting cross cultural awareness of First Nations people's historic and current role in Canadian society; providing a First Nations resource base for bands and school systems; conducting and facilitating research on First Nations' heritage and culture; and promoting the Inherent Sovereignty of First Nations and their governments, as recognized by the Royal Proclamation of 1763, confirmed by Treaties 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and the Constitutional relationships.
