Are you a student who likes to entertain, host interesting conversations and promote fun activities? The City of Yorkton is taking applications for a Summer Tour Guide. We’re looking for a dynamic individual to join our team and share our history and heritage with our residents and visitors, based on existing publications. As a Tour Guide, you will be responsible for leading groups on guided tours, sharing historical, cultural, or natural information, and providing an engaging experience that highlights the best of Yorkton! This is a fantastic opportunity to develop public speaking, customer service, and leadership skills, while making a positive impact on the community.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, schedule and lead lively, engaging tours of our cemetery and downtown for diverse audiences, providing historical, cultural, and local insights.
• Ensure that all tours are informative, interactive, and enjoyable, creating lasting memories for our guests.
• Manage group dynamics and maintain the safety of tour participants.
• Answer visitor questions and share information about local landmarks, history, and current events.
• Assist with any operational tasks related to the tour program.
• Foster a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for visitors.
• Assist with marketing and promoting the tour program, when necessary.
Qualifications:
• Current student, preferably in a related field (e.g., History, Education, Tourism, Environmental Studies, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups and engaging with diverse audiences.
• Enthusiastic, friendly, and approachable demeanor.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Prior experience in customer service or public speaking is a plus, but not required.
• Must be available to work on weekends and holidays.
