Researcher
Heritage Saskatchewan, Regina
Deadline: April 01, 2025 - April 22, 2025
Heritage Saskatchewan, a non-profit organization located in Saskatchewan, is hiring an intern to conduct heritage-related research. This research project is to identify heritage places that relate to critical issues in heritage conservation in Saskatchewan and to tell their stories. The objective of this project is to develop stories of the places and the people who care for them, to fill a gap in our understanding of the value heritage places bring to communities. This research will build on Heritage Saskatchewan’s work in funding and designations in our province and will contribute to our advocacy efforts by providing grassroots examples. This work will also support our research into the economic importance of the heritage industry and to the difficulties facing heritage places in Saskatchewan. The candidate for this position will build on that research by doing interviews with heritage site caretakers, heritage workers/volunteers and others involved in the heritage industry to tell the stories of heritage places.
The successful candidate will utilize their critical thinking and analytical skills to synthesize a variety of information from multiple sources. The candidate will have strong communication skills in English; be comfortable with working independently; be able to easily converse with a diverse range of people in terms of demographics, and a diversity of opinions and worldviews; and possess an ability to represent our organization in a professional manner. The candidate shall be required to travel within the prescribed area for engagement sessions with individuals and organizations and therefore requires a valid driver's license.
We encourage candidates from equity-deserving communities to apply to this position, and are open to applications from anyone who feels their combination of skills and experience can do this work. We value the contributions of all staff with visionary and challenging ideas of how to increase community appreciation and understanding of heritage.
Timeframe: Preferably to begin in May of 2025, for a minimum of 540 hours.
Compensation: $22.00/hour. Mandatory costs such as Worker's Compensation, CPP, etc. will be covered.
Location: The student will work remotely in association with the Heritage Saskatchewan office, which is in Regina. Some travel within Saskatchewan will be required.
