Museum Employee
Nokomis District Museum, Nokomis

POSITION DETAILS:
Employees will work 35 hours/week (5 days a week, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM) at $16/hour. The employment period begins on June 1st, 2025 and ends on September 1st, 2025.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 16 and 30 at the start of the job.
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or have refugee status.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number).
- Be enrolled in a high school, college, or university.
- Express an interest in history, heritage, and preservation for future generations.
- Demonstrate basic to intermediate computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Be comfortable working in a rural community.
- Be comfortable interacting with people of all ages, from children to seniors.
- Demonstrate skills including adaptability, effective collaboration and communication, creativity and innovation, and time management and self-direction.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Orientation and training will occur during the first week of work, with further coaching and mentoring provided throughout the employment period.
- Daily tasks include opening and closing procedures, greeting and assisting visitors, caring for artefacts, updating computer databases, maintenance of the museum and grounds, and researching community history.
- Larger goal-oriented tasks and projects that engage the community and promote culture include creating new exhibits, developing programs like Kids Days, and planning events like Night at the Museum, concerts, and workshops. These tasks and projects will be completed in collaboration with museum board members and volunteers.
