The Education & Outreach Coordinator’s main purpose is to develop, plan, and deliver history-based programs and educational activities for the Souris Valley Museum. Souris Valley Museum offers programs from ages 2 years old to Adult/Senior. This position also supports the planning of special events that occur at the museum throughout the year.

This position is permanent, Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. This position is Monday to Friday but will be subject to change in the summer, depending on the Summer camp schedule and special events.. Since the busy time at the museum is during the spring/summer months and events take place at this time, some evening and weekend work may be required.

Wage: $18/hour

Duties:
1) Develop, plan, coordinate, and deliver museum educational programs. Conduct tours, hands-on activities, and day camp to a diverse audience of all ages. Research appropriate activities related to museum history, gathering materials, planning appropriate activities, and delivering the programs.
2) Prepare research materials for tours and events (virtual and in person).
3) Design and deliver outreach programs at a partnering location in the community.
4) Develop advertising and social media postings for museum programs & events.
5) Represent the msueum at key functions and events; include speaking to the media/public about the museum and its programs.
6) General cleaning and maintenance of artifacts, museum, and its grounds.
7) Answering emails and phones, taking bookings, and serving as a public liaison when asked questions.
8) Receive payments from customers/patrons.
9) Maintain stat reports on program attendance, report monthly program activities to the board in a written report.
10) Intro to grant writing for museum programs & events.
11) Other duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications & Skills

1)Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
2) 1-2 years experience in field of education/programming/working with children &/or youth.
3) Good written and verbal communications skills.
4) Comfortable working with the public of all ages and backgrounds.
5) Prior experience working with large groups of children (10-20 individuals).
6) Prior experience running craft activities and games.
7) Ability to perform physical tasks.
8) Able to work independently, self-starter, organized.
9) Working knowledge of Windows, Internet, Microsoft Office and Canva plus Facebook, Instagram.
10) Must have a driver’s license.

The Souris Valley Museum is a Non-Profit regional history Museum that focuses on the human development and daily life in Southeast Saskatchewan with a focus on the early homestead settlement life in the Prairies. The Museum opened its doors to the public in September 2001 and since then has been serving the community through our exhibitions, programs, outreach, and events.
