A Christmas Long Ago
Christmas is a time when many people’s thoughts turn to family gatherings, decorated trees, turkey dinners, brightly wrapped gifts and holiday traditions. Join us this December to travel back in time and experience one family's celebrations over 100 years ago.
Like today, children of long ago grew more excited as the holiday season drew near – wondering what the hung stocking would hold, what new toy may be under the tree, what shape the newly cut tree would take, and what goodies the family would bake.
Dec. 10: 10 am and 2 pm sessions
Dec. 17: 10 am and 2 pm sessions
Dec. 23: 7 pm virtual session
Through this Museum-led program, we provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about 1910 settler life and, in particular, about family traditions during the holiday season. Hear a story, see photos and and touch hands-on artifacts; visitors will learn how families prepared for the holidays, what types of gifts were given, try replica wooden toys and make an old-fashioned craft. Recommended for ages five years and up; families welcome!
There are four in-person sessions happening in December (Saturday, December 10 and 17, at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm each day). Space is limited and pre-registration is required. You can learn more and purchase tickets for the 2:00 pm session on Saturday, December 17 here: https://wdm.ca/event_manager/acla-5/ Your ticket will also allow you to visit the Museum galleries before or after the program at no extra cost.
As well, there is one virtual program that will include the story portion of the in-person event at 7:00 pm, Friday, December 23. There is no cost to participate in this program, however, you must pre-register in advance so a Zoom link to the program can be sent to you. You can register for the virtual program here: https://wdm.ca/event_manager/virtualacla/
